History

History
Recognizing the significance of tea as a major economic crop of Chiang Rai, Mae Fah Luang University established an adhocracy organization, the Tea Institute, to serve as a knowledge and technology transfer center on tea and tea products, with the main goal being a center for educational, research and development, as well as pursuing and approaching the related policies, and encouraging collaborations between public and private bodies, in order to promote the development of tea industry in all aspects, enhancing the competitive potential of Thai tea in global market.

Our goal is to be recognized as a fountain of information in the field of teas and to become the best resource for academic studies, scientific research and information. We will provide exceptional services and effective coordination between government and private sectors.

Our mission is to become the leading resource in terms of academic studies, scientific research, services and effective coordination, recognized at both domestic and international levels.
We will respond to the needs of government and private sectors and play a vital role in advancing the economic and social development of the Thai tea industry.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. To follow up government policy and coordinate between government and private sectors in order to promote the Thai tea industry.
  2. To serve as the center for coordination and network creation in the field of teas in both domestic and international levels.
  3. To serve as the industry’s tea resource center with the responsibility of compiling, analyzing, synthesizing, disseminating and transferring tea information and knowledge.
  4. To support tea industry development by providing such services as technical consulting and research as well as laboratory services.
